lic. gen. contractor
( if u live in a wind zone u will have to know what level… don’t forget rim joist, do u want to splice ur decking or have solid decking? many states dont allow 4×4’s for pilings here in nc min. is a 6×6. the handrails, if the deck is over 20″ from grade picketts or balusters must be 4″ on center. many, many other ideas and questions)

Take a trip to your local Menard’s with you dimensions. They usually will give good deals on “kits” that include everything from nails and bolts to build what you need. Also gives you ideas on things you can do different, or add. Good luck!

Beyond tools, knowledge skill I’ll offer some suggestions.
4 x 4 treated posts
2 x 6 or 2 x 8 treated lumber for joists and supports
deck material, either 2 x or decking lumber in a 7/8th perhaps.
carriage bolts
galvanized deck screws, long enough to hold the top to the joists
Tools certainly
Perhaps concrete to anchor the pilings OR Pier Blocks. Pir Blocks are preformed concrete, and also come with metal bracing/fittings to attach the 4 x 4 uprights.
Anything else, get in touch…

Go to lowes.com
They have a deck design program that will let you design your deck and give you a parts list.

This site is a very good site. I built a round deck around my 24′ pool and was very satisfied with the plans and material list they provided.
